Ethernet crossover cables are most often used in home networks when connecting two ethernet computers without a hub or switch or router. An Ethernet crossover cable has it's send and receive wires crossed. When using a hub or switch or router, this is automatically done for you.

What is the deference between patch cable and crossover cable?

As it is names it is simply twisting two pairs each other. In a network port one and two pins are for transmit, three and six pins are for receive. Cables 1 and 2 wires connect to pin 3 and 6. See the image for more details

The wire color sequence is different for various applications and connector types so be certain that you do not follow the above color coordination implicitly in every situation.
